Art Deco - Napier was rebuilt in the early 1930’s following a massive earthquake which destroyed most of its commercial heart. Nowhere else can you see such a variety of buildings in the styles of the 1930’s – stripped classical, Spanish mission, and above all Art Deco, the jazz age style – in such a concentrated area.

Wineries - Wine has been produced commercially in the Hawkes Bay since 1850 and the vintage produced by the Friars of Mission Estate were soon winning acclaim from Europe. There are 28 wineries in the region now producing wine that win awards all over the world.

Trout Fishing - The Hawkes Bay is renowned for its broad range of great fishing water from rivers to gentle flowing willow lined streams. Gannet Colony – Cape Kidnappers - Cape Kidnappers is home to the world's largest mainland Gannet Colony of some 20,000 birds. You can view these magnificent migratory birds close up.

Golf - Napier Golf Course, formed in 1896 is one of New Zealand's oldest. Over the years it has been the site of many New Zealand and interprovincial tournaments, in fact hosting the first ever New Zealand open in 1907. The 18 hole championship course provides an easy walking but always challenging test of golf both for the beginner and low handicapper. Visitors are always welcome.

Te Mata Peak - Known as the sleeping giant, Te Mata Peak stands 339 metres above sea level with an uninterrupted view over the region. The Ruahine, Kaweka and Maungaharuru ranges form the horizon with the volcano, Ruapehu in the background. Te Mata Peak is visited extensively by locals and tourists. Bushwalks, hang gliding and paragliding, orienteering and rock-climbing are just a few of the attractions to the peak. It is well worth the visit.
